WhatsApp Calling lets you and your customers talk by voice without leaving WhatsApp. Calls happen straight from the Chatmo inbox β you can answer a customer who rings in, or start a call out to them β and every call is recorded, transcribed, and summarized so nothing gets lost after you hang up.

What you can do
- Answer incoming calls from customers right inside the dashboard.
- Call customers β either ask for permission first (Business-Initiated) or send them a tap-to-call button (Customer-Initiated).
- Record every call automatically, with a built-in player to replay it later.
- Read the transcript β each call is turned into text, speaker by speaker, and is fully searchable.
- Get an AI summary of what was discussed, so you can skim a long call in seconds.
How it fits together
A WhatsApp call in Chatmo touches a few places:
| Where | What happens there |
|---|---|
| Channel β Calls settings | You turn calling on for a WhatsApp number and set the ground rules (hours, permissions, auto-reply). |
| Settings β Call | Each agent picks their ringtone and tests their microphone. |
| Chat | The place you start a call or pick up an incoming one. |
| Calls page | The full history of every call your team made or received. |
| Call Details | The recording, transcript, and AI summary for a single call. |
Who can use it
WhatsApp Calling only works on WhatsApp Cloud API numbers that have reached the 1,000+ messaging tier. Numbers connected through WhatsApp Coexistence can't make or receive calls β for those, the call settings are read-only.
Not sure which type your number is? Open the channel's Calls tab. If calling isn't available, Chatmo tells you exactly why right at the top of the page.
