Facebook Messenger is one of the most widely used messaging platforms worldwide, and many customers prefer reaching businesses through their Facebook Page. Chatmo's Facebook Messenger integration pulls Page conversations into your unified inbox so your team can handle them alongside WhatsApp, Instagram, and every other connected channel -- all in one place.

Prerequisites
Before connecting Facebook Messenger to Chatmo, make sure you have:
- A Facebook Business Page that is published -- draft or unpublished Pages cannot receive messages
- Admin access to the Facebook Page you want to connect
- Messaging enabled for the Page -- go to your Facebook Page Settings and confirm that people are allowed to contact your Page privately
- An active Chatmo account with access to the dashboard
One Chatmo account can connect multiple Facebook Pages. Each Page becomes its own channel, which is useful if you manage several brands, locations, or product lines with separate Facebook Pages.
Connecting Facebook Messenger
The connection process uses Meta's OAuth flow to securely link your Facebook Page(s) to Chatmo. Here is the full walkthrough:
Step-by-Step Setup
Step 1. In the Chatmo sidebar, click Channel.
Step 2. In the channel category panel on the left, select Facebook Messenger.

Step 3. Click the Add Facebook Messenger Account button in the main area.
Step 4. A Connect Facebook Messenger popup modal appears. Click the Continue with Facebook button to start the authorization process.

Step 5. A Facebook popup opens with the heading Choose the Pages you want Chatmo.io to access. You will see two options:
- Opt in to all current and future Pages -- grants access to every Page you own now and any you create later
- Opt in to current Pages only -- grants access only to the Pages you explicitly select
Select Opt in to current Pages only for more granular control.
Step 6. Your Facebook Pages are listed. Check the Pages you want Chatmo.io to access, then click Next to continue.

Step 7. The Review Chatmo.io's access request screen appears. Review the list of permissions being requested to make sure everything looks correct.

Step 8. Click Save to confirm the permission settings, then click Got it on the confirmation that follows.

Step 9. If the process is successful, you will be redirected to the Facebook Messenger channel detail page. Here you can view the connected Page information and configure channel settings.

Do not reduce or skip any permissions during the OAuth process. If certain permissions are not granted, some features may not work correctly -- for example, Chatmo might receive messages but be unable to send replies.
Channel Detail Page
After connecting a Facebook Page, click on it in the channel list to open the detail page. This is where you configure channel settings, view Page information, edit the Page profile, and assign an AI Agent for auto-reply.

Channel Configuration
At the top of the detail page, you can configure:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Channel Name | A custom name for this channel in Chatmo (e.g., "Main Page Messenger" or "Support FB") |
| Channel Status | Toggle between Active and Inactive. Inactive channels stop receiving new messages in the inbox |
| Chat Link | A read-only link in the format https://m.me/<pageId> that you can share with customers to start a Messenger conversation directly |
Facebook Page Information
The detail page displays read-only information pulled from your Facebook Page:
- Facebook Page ID
- Page Name
- Page Category
- Fan Count
- Followers Count
- Profile Picture
- Cover Photo
This information is fetched from the Facebook Graph API. To refresh it, click the Sync Profile button on the detail page.
Editing Page Profile Information
To update your Facebook Page's profile information from within Chatmo, click the Edit Profile button. A modal opens with the following editable fields:

- About / Description -- a brief description of your business
- Website URL -- your business website (validated for proper URL format)
- Phone Number -- a contact phone number displayed on the Page
- Emails -- one or more email addresses
- Location -- city, country, street, and zip code
- Profile Picture -- upload a new profile image
- Cover Photo URL -- the URL for the Page cover photo
Changes made here are pushed to your Facebook Page via the Graph API.
AI Agent Assignment (Auto-Reply)
Auto-reply for Facebook Messenger is configured through the AI Agent dropdown on the channel detail page.

- The dropdown is searchable and supports pagination, making it easy to find the right agent even if you have many configured.
- Select an AI Agent to enable automated responses. The selected AI Agent will handle all incoming messages automatically based on its configured behavior and knowledge base.
- Select OFF to disable AI auto-reply entirely. When set to OFF, all messages require manual response from a human agent.
All automated response behavior is managed through the assigned AI Agent. Configure your AI Agent's personality, knowledge base, and response rules in the AI Agent settings to control how it handles Messenger conversations.
Saving Changes
After making any changes to channel configuration, profile information, or AI Agent assignment, click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the detail page.

| Text messages | Yes | Send and receive text messages |
| Images | Yes | Send and receive image files |
| Videos | Yes | Send and receive video files |

The 24-Hour Messaging Window
Facebook enforces a 24-hour messaging window for Pages communicating through Messenger.
- When a customer sends your Page a message, a 24-hour window opens.
- During this window, you can reply freely with any type of content.
- Each new message from the customer resets the 24-hour timer.
- After the window closes, you can only send messages using message tags, which are limited to specific categories.
Approved Message Tags
If you need to send a message after the 24-hour window has expired, Facebook allows the following message tags:
| Tag | Allowed Use |
|---|---|
CONFIRMED_EVENT_UPDATE | Updates about a confirmed event the customer registered for |
POST_PURCHASE_UPDATE | Updates about a recent purchase (shipping, delivery status, etc.) |
ACCOUNT_UPDATE | Updates about the customer's account (payment issues, settings changes, etc.) |
Message tags must not be used for promotional content. Facebook monitors tag usage and may restrict your Page's messaging capabilities if tags are misused.
Managing Multiple Pages
If your business runs several Facebook Pages, you can connect each one during the initial setup by selecting multiple Pages in the page selection modal. Each connected Page becomes its own channel in Chatmo with:
- Its own channel name and status
- Its own AI Agent assignment
- Its own Page profile information
Tips for Multiple Pages
- Use descriptive channel names -- for example, "Facebook - US Store," "Facebook - Customer Support," or "Facebook - Brand X"
- Assign different AI Agents per Page -- each Page may serve a different audience, so configure AI Agents with appropriate knowledge bases and response styles
- Monitor each channel's status -- check that all connected Pages remain active and properly connected
Conversation Flow
Once connected, Messenger conversations work like any other channel in Chatmo:
- A customer visits your Facebook Page and clicks Send Message, or opens a Messenger thread with your Page.
- Their message arrives in your Chatmo inbox, marked with the Facebook Messenger icon.
- If an AI Agent is assigned, it responds automatically. Otherwise, a human agent opens and replies to the conversation.
- The customer sees the reply in their Messenger app or on messenger.com.
- Customer profile information (name, profile picture) is pulled from Facebook automatically.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Likely Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Page not visible during setup | You do not have Admin access to the Page | Ask the Page owner to grant you the Admin role |
| Channel connected but no messages arriving | Messaging may be turned off on the Page | Go to Facebook Page Settings and enable messaging |
| "Permission denied" errors | Permissions were not fully granted during OAuth | Disconnect and reconnect the channel, making sure to accept all requested permissions |
| Messages delayed | Facebook API latency | Usually temporary. If it persists, check Meta Platform Status |
| Connection lost after password change | Facebook token invalidated | Reconnect the channel through the Channel page |
| AI Agent not responding | AI Agent may be set to OFF or misconfigured | Check the AI Agent dropdown on the channel detail page and verify the agent's configuration |
